The Scott Workshop was established in 2012, and is driven by the aspiration to create innovative pieces of contemporary furniture that demonstrate imagination in both their form and function.
The Obliquity Table
To create a CAD model of a table that we could then split into horizontal sections to create 1:1 paper templates.
What we did
Before being able to create the sections the client needed, we had to create a 3D CAD model of the table. Enda had supplied quite a detailed written brief and a surface sketch to explain the shape and relationship between the base and top.
The geometry involved in creating this twisted base took a bit of understanding and we didn’t get it right first time. However, because of the really detailed brief and with a bit of to and fro we managed to create the model
We created sectioned line profiles in Inventor and then exported them into AutoCAD so we could nest them efficiently…some of the plots were nearly 3m long…a total of 38.5 metres!
Our client then used these templates to create this unique twisted base.
What the client says
“When I set out to make the table I knew that it would be difficult to find a company willing to take the time to develop the idea given the unusual nature of the design. Having tried a number of companies locally, none of whom were willing to take on the project, I contacted Catwards. Cathy and the team were professional, friendly and efficient in their service. I couldn’t have done it without your help and look forward to working with you again in the future.”
